This February, the Ateneu de Maó is hosting a new series of roundtable discussions entitled “Living within the Doughnut: the keys to a fair and regenerative development”, an invitation to rethink the economic model from a more human and environmentally responsible perspective.
The series explores the concept of Doughnut Economics, developed by British economist Kate Raworth, which raises an essential question: can we ensure a dignified life for everyone without exceeding the planet’s ecological limits? Her model proposes moving beyond an economy focused solely on GDP growth and instead placing social wellbeing and respect for ecosystems at the centre of decision-making.
This Thursday, 12 February, the discussion will focus on the key role of consumer cooperatives and local markets in shortening the distance between consumers and local producers within today’s food systems.
Representing San Crispín, our manager Joan Sànchez will share the cooperative’s experience in a roundtable alongside Vero Mullor, manager of Mercat del Claustre de Maó, and Ferran Garcia, coordinator of Justicia Alimentaria.
A conversation to understand how local food systems can become a real tool for economic and social transformation, connecting territory, producers and community.
