When November arrives, Menorca dresses in autumn colours. The leaves turn, the air cools, and the most authentic flavours return to our tables: honey, chestnuts, sweet potatoes and homemade fritters.
In recent years, celebrations like Halloween have become more popular, especially among younger generations.
But here in the Balearic Islands, we have our own traditions worth keeping alive.
All Saints’ Day and the Day of the Departed are moments to remember those who are no longer with us — but also to share time with family, in calm and warmth, enjoying seasonal local food.
🎃 We’re more All Saints than Halloween
At Cooperativa San Crispín, we like to stand up for what’s ours.
There’s no need to dress up to enjoy a good celebration — we prefer the smell of freshly fried fritters, the taste of Menorcan honey, and the cosy feeling of cooking together.
That’s why, this November, we’re more All Saints than Halloween:
— for those who enjoy making their own fritters at home, following the traditional recipe,
— and for those who prefer to buy them from local bakeries and pastry shops that sweeten our days with handmade, local products.
Celebrating what’s ours is also a way to care for our island and our people.
🌰 The flavours of Menorcan autumn
November is the time for high-quality local produce:
Menorcan sweet potato, soft and delicate — perfect for fritters.
Menorca honey, a natural treasure, aromatic and wholesome.
Nuts and chestnuts, the stars of fairs and markets at this time of year.
Pumpkins, dried figs and aged cheeses, essentials in any autumn kitchen.
At Cooperativa San Crispín, we work to promote these products, partnering with local farmers and producers who keep our land alive.
🍯 Traditional recipe: sweet potato fritters with Menorca honey
One of the most beloved desserts of this season is “monyaco” fritters (sweet potato fritters).
Here’s the recipe so you can make them at home:
Ingredients:
250 g cooked and mashed sweet potato
150 g flour
1 egg
1 tablespoon sugar
1 pinch of salt
½ packet of baking powder
Mild oil for frying
Menorca honey for serving
Preparation:
Mix the cooked sweet potato with the egg, sugar and salt.
Add the flour and baking powder until you get a soft dough.
Let it rest for a few minutes.
Shape small balls and fry them until golden brown.
Drain them and drizzle with Menorca honey.
A simple, sweet pleasure filled with the scent of autumn.
🌾 Let’s celebrate what’s ours
Reviving traditions doesn’t mean rejecting new ones — it means valuing what makes us unique as a community.
This November, let’s celebrate All Saints’ Day with the flavour of Menorca, with the products of our land and the warmth of our people.
